About Elemental / white crest

It wasn't a huge surprise when Nick Waugh, director of View Gallery here in Bristol, came up with the idea of combining his two passions into a single project, by suggesting that Rybrook should exhibit some large scale artworks in their substantial new build showrooms, alongside a host of stellar cars, right here in Bristol. The schoolboy in me was of course hugely entertained to spend a day installing work surrounded by such extraordinary automotive designs. Some of the detail that goes into the bodywork and paint finishing on these Vorticist machines is really extraordinary.

We hung a 2.4m wide Elemental piece above Mika Häkkinen's luminous F1 Mclaren, fitted with a bright orange body shell that in many ways is more extraordinary than much of the sculptural work you'll see in contemporary galleries, with phenomenal paintwork too of course. A long time ago I used to spray high gloss custom American metal flake finishes myself, mostly onto classic Italian scooters, so I have a real love for that language of highly lacquered colour finishing. It’s inspirational in many ways.

The installation also includes ReVOX / silvered, hung on the opposite wall, and an amazing multi panel 4m painting installed in the Rolls Royce showroom too.

A great project to work on, and open to view, for both the art and the cars, if you're passing. Link here for the Google maps location...
