About the fairs

I thought I’d include a small selection of some of my favourite images of the fairs from the past 15 years or so. Art fairs have come to dominate the art world in the time I’ve been making work, for better and for worse I think. They offer an amazing opportunity to get your work seen by literally thousands of people, and connect with them over a number of years. But the format also creates a kind of greatest hits environment, where subtler and slower burn pieces may not stand out successfully, and in so doing the fair format can deny people the chance to view the broader body of work that only a gallery show can achieve.

That said, on balance, I think the fairs have driven an interest in the visual arts to a broader audience, and that has to be a good thing. No doubt they’ll continue to be a great place to view new work, and follow artists’ careers as they progress.
