About Quad
Quad is a sixteen pointed form, generated in four quarters, or quads, each quad comprising four parts, therefore.
It takes some inspiration from the sublime masterworks of traditional Islamic geometry, and the sheer beauty of the mathematics that underpin it.
Drawn for my 2012 show Generator, it’s completed iterations exist as both a complex blue, yellow and turquoise study, and also as this far simpler, smaller, monochrome piece on a silver base.
There was an intention to draw a kind of brush like mandala form, loaded with colour, and mobile within the space, in such a way that it breaks out of its original positions on the underlying grid, as the whole composition spins off centre.
Each of the individual components is unique, if I recall correctly, and so the study contrasts the repetition of the overall form, with the individuality of each brush stroke, in a rotating interplay that then led on to the Radial / THREE series, which is built on some of the ideas first tested here.
This silvered variant, however, substitutes the movement, colour and off kilter asymmetry of the turquoise variant, in favour of a simpler repetition of form, and focus on the light and drama captured in the twisting monochromatic vessels underlying the coloured glazes of the larger work.

Quad / silvered is a metallic Lambda photographic print, optionally mounted to Plexiglass, laser cut to shape, and fitted with a hidden subframe, ready to install.
Work can be supplied unmounted and ready to frame if you’d prefer.
The work is individually signed and numbered verso, with both a unique catalogue raisonné number and the edition number for guaranteed authenticity.
